Assessing the Lisbon Strategy a year before its revision: some progress but targets have not been met
Benchmarking Working Europe 2009 has been published! This year’s report provides an assessment of the different facets of Lisbon Strategy. It asks whether the EU is really moving in the direction of knowledge-based growth, examines whether the EU has witnessed the creation of more and better quality jobs and considers whether the Union is succeeding in attaining greater social cohesion.

Who controls your pension?
Legislation enacted in the UK in 2004 requires the boards of occupational pension funds to include at least one-third member nominated trustees (MNTs), with provisions for this proportion to be raised to one half.

ETUI suggests creation of a European Company monitoring service
The European commission could look into setting up a European Company (SE) monitoring service in order to better understand their creation and development.
During a recent ETUI book launch ("the European Company Statute - a new approach to corporate governance" ) Senior ETUI Researcher Norbert Kluge suggested that a greater understanding of European companies and how legislation surrounding them is actually applied on the ground is now required.

A new visual identity for ETUI
The European Trade Union Institute for Research, Training and Health and Safety (ETUI-REHS) has shed its skin. It is now simply the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI). The restyled logo embodies the English acronym ‘ETUI’ for European Trade Union Institute. With the name change comes a new visual identity focused on two values: simplicity and modernity.

Plant-level responses to the economic crisis in Europe: the new working paper from ETUI
How are social policy actors in major sectors of the European economy responding to the current economic and financial crisis?
This working paper summarises the plant- level responses of social policy actors to the symptoms of the current recession between October and mid January 2009.
It examines how organised labour and capital responded to the crisis in key sectors and countries and what collective bargaining and labour market policy tools were available to deal with its effects and thus safeguard employment.
